Oh, because of the Google

Oh, because of the Google aspect? I kinda got the gist that they're suggesting we don't hold our horses for a free corporate fiber offering, and instead form our own community fiber project, kinda like a public utility district, although they've also been rallying support for Google to bring fiber as well.

open-access fiber for portland

Here is what I said to the City Council last March:  http://www.portlandfiber.com/2010/03/17/statements-before-city-council/also an Ignite Portland 5 talk I did:  http://blazestreaming.blip.tv/file/1795733/What is needed is a general appeal to ordinary people/voters to show why building a publicly-owned non-profit last-mile infrastructure is just the obvious thing to do, and to generate the groundswell of interest that would motivate the City Council or others to put some resources behind it.
